In software development, a beta test is the second phase
of development in which a sampling of the intended audience
uses and evaluates the product. The alpha, or first
phase of development includes unit testing, component
testing, and system testing. Beta tests are intended
to provide a preview of how the product will perform
in the "real world".
As a beta tester for Byte Size Tools you will evaluate
our pre-release products, giving us vital feedback prior
to a full product launch in the marketplace. This critical
information will be used to shape, define, and fine-tune
the final version. As a consumer in the digital age,
we believe your comments will prove invaluable to the
success of our products.
Beta testers will receive a special "beta release"
version of the product for evaluation.
During this evaluation period, the beta testers will
report any problems found while using the product. Since
beta testers get privileged, first access to the product
before the public does, they get to influence product
development through their feedback.
Byte Size Tools will give all beta testers a FREE 3-MONTH
SUBSCRIPTION to the final version of PathLight as compensation
for their efforts.
Please note, beta testing is for people who can tolerate
the unfinished nature of a prerelease product. As a
result, it is not for everyone. However, most of our
testers find it extremely rewarding to contribute to
the final product.
If you're interested in becoming a beta tester, please
review the expectations, requirements, and Frequently-Asked-Questions
pages. Afterwards, please fill out the online application
form and click the submit button.
Additional Notes:
|
- Beta testers are supplied with a stable version
of the prerelease product, suitable for use on a
daily basis. In fact, we strongly encourage you
to use it as often as possible.
- "Bugs" are a coding error in a computer
program (i.e., glitches and software malfunctions).
Bugs can also represent problems with how the software
interacts with the computer hardware. This is what
beta testers help discover.
- Beta testers are selected based on a wide variety
of criteria as determined by our product team. The
ideal test group will consist of computer novices,
intermediates, and experts, as well as both single
user and multi-user households. We select a diverse
test group to put the software through a variety
of activities. For that reason, we can't always
guarantee that we can include everyone who submits
an application, but we'll try!
